"Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and tortuous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we call it the word of a demon than the word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind; and, for my part, I sincerely detest it, as I detest everything that is cruel." -Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason

If you have things like this going on with your kids, get professional help. Do not think that it will stop, or that anything you can do on your own can help. This is more than "bad mouthing" the other parent, this is an attempt to annihilate you relationship with your children.

Our choice was given in 1969. Do we choose the Dionysian worldview of Woodstock, or the Apollonian philosophy that allowed for the landing on the Moon? Do we choose mythology or reason?

The Evangelical church is also a Dionysian movement as well. More emotional, less rational... That's why it's funny to watch evangelicals doing political battle with the Woodstock crowd! It's just a different form of emotionalism.

Our Apollonian and Dionysian Choice
Metaphysics and epistemology are totally absent from the Tea Party movement - rather it's mostly composed of emotionally charged political sound-bites with no clear philosophical foundation. We better bring more than "we love liberty" with us to this battle. Keep in mind, Marx is selling liberty in the marketplace as well.

"Obsessed alienators have a fervent cause to destroy the targeted parent. Frequently a parent can be a blend between two types of alienators, usually a combination between the naïve and active alienator. Rarely does the obsessed alienator have enough self-control or insight to blend with the other types. These three patterns of alienating behaviors are not intended to be used as a diagnosis. The types have not been validated sufficient for litigation."

“A philosophic system is an integrated view of existence. AS a human being, you have no choice about the fact that you need a philosophy. Your only choice is whether you define your philosophy by a conscious, rational, disciplined process of thought…or let your subconscious accumulate a junk heap of unwarranted conclusions…” -Ayn Rand

You know what would be cool; building a "city in speech." Forget about all the micro-politics and points of minor argument and sit down and create a city. I wonder what that would look like? A post-modern liberal and a classical liberal building a polis together. We both worldviews want the "best" for people. We both value freedom. I wonder what that city would look like? Should we use our intuition, or our reason as our guide for surviving in the world of nature? Good lord I hope it would not look like a Rainbow Gathering... Over the next several weeks, I will be focusing on some of the thinkers who have influenced my thinking, both politically as we as spirituality. This week I will give a very brief overview of the work of Eric Voegelin and how his insights pertain to our current crisis.

Voegelin is not well known outside of a few intellectual circles, yet I feel the reading of some of his works is essential for those who seek a deeper understanding of our current social condition.

“Man is essentially social; to live in truth against appearances when the power of society is thrown on the side of appearances is a burden on the soul that is impossible to bear for the many, and hard to bear for the few.”

There are no easy solutions. As I ponder our options, I can’t help but wonder how realistic are the objectives set by the neoconservatives. And let us be clear on this point: The strategy that has been applied is a neoconservative creation.

Several people have recently inquired as to my problem with FOX news as of late. My wife and I have grown ever more displeased with the atmosphere on FOX that seems more and more filled with cheesy humor, sexual innuendos, and Jerry Springer like broadcasting. I find myself turning to CNN more and more despite their left leanings. They run a far more professional outfit.

Leading the charge on the FOX implosion into a drama show is the ever popular Glenn Beck. Sure, Glenn puts on a good show and gets the villagers all riled up, but in the long run Glenn does a disservice to
the movement. How I long for the days of Brit Hume, with his cool and well reasoned approach to political commentary

Because the modern liberal knows at heart that his worldview is in grave conflict with reality, they attempt to avoid coming under the light of reason and rational debate in the public arena of ideas. The gnostic liberals positions are not supportable by reason. Therefore they will often simply claim that people like myself are being uncompassionate, disrespectful, oppressive, bigoted, fearful, and of harsh tone. I am making a “moral value judgment.” Bad, bad, boy!
